We just finished designing and installing two of our new "2nd generation" teaching podiums. Gone are the remotes. An Extron push-button panel controls everything. This is the model we're looking at putting into our other 50+ classrooms to replace an older design that is not laptop friendly, uses dual remotes, and generally doesn't have a document camera available.
We installed a much more sophisticated system in our 64-seat Ayres classroom using the Crestron technology.
It took a lot of experimenting and tweaking to program the control system to be easy to use but flexible enough to do all that we wanted, including:
1. Computer A on one screen and Computer B (tablet PC) on the other.
2. Computer A with extended desktop spanning both screens.
3. Computer A on one screen and document camera on the other.
4. DVD or VHS video shown on both screens.
5. Shades and lights automatically adjust depending on the selection.
The easier we can make the technology the more likely faculty will be to use it. That's our goal.
